Jetpatching Process

Jetpatching

The three step process is completed in one smooth operation!

Step 1

  • Air Jet from nozzle blows out dirt, dust, debris and even water from the interior and surrounding edges of the pothole.
  • Air Jet cleans out cracks and fissures.

Step 2

  • Valve controlling the flow of liquid emulsion from pressurized tank.
  • Liquid emulsion being sprayed into the pothole.
  • Inner area of the pothole sprayed including all openings and fissures.
  • Perimeter of pothole is sprayed to seal edges.
  • Broken areas around edges are filled.

Step 3

  • Remote control switch activates conveyor to put aggregate into the air stream.
    Liquid emulsion valve.
  • Aggregate and liquid emulsion are mixed in the nozzle and are sprayed under pressure into the pothole.
  • Aggregate and Emulsion are air compacted from the bottom of the pothole up...denser than rolled asphalt.

Jetpatching Applications include:

  • Potholes
  • Edge breaks
  • Road depressions
  • Wheel path rutting
  • Crack sealing
  • Digouts
  • Speed bumps
  • Drainage buns
  • Scabbing
  • Ausroad™ Jetmaster Road Maintenance Units are capable of 2.4m wide single pass emulsion spray sealing and depression filling.

Surface Cracks

If the surface cracks are caused by failure of the seal rather than road base failure then the Ausroad™ Jetmaster is ideal for these repairs because of the ability to ensure that all cracks are penetrated with emulsion and fine aggregate material jet air blasted into the cracks. The repair can then be finished with the Ausroad™ Jetmaster via a thin layer of new chip seal over the top.

Scabbing

Where an existing sealed surface is showing signs of scabbing (thin layers of asphalt are peeling off) the Ausroad™ Jetmaster is ideal to repair these defects before water enters the base of the road causing more damage or before the scabbing extends further.

By spraying material comprising a fine 5-7 mm aggregate to achieve a thin coating which adheres well to the existing surface, the scabbed area is readily repaired. The material blends into the existing surrounding road surface. Finish the repair with either dry aggregate or sand.

Interim Repairs

Where the road base has failed and the road needs to be completely reformed prior to resealing, the Ausroad™ Jetmaster is often used to defer the major works for a period while ensuring the road is still safe and usable.

Because the Ausroad™ Jetmaster is much cheaper than manual methods, this type of application of the equipment is very practical and allows Local Authorities and others responsible for road maintenance to hold over major work until a time of the year when weather or finance / funding are more suitable.

Scope of Repairs

The scope of repairs is not limited in size. At full output the Ausroad™ Jetmaster is capable of producing approximately 2.5 cubic meters of asphalt per hour. Production rates of 3.6 cubic meters per hour are achievable. For small repairs this may be too much and so the operator can control the volume required for the repair work using the remote throttle and by slowing the conveyor speed.

Operators of Ausroad™ Jetmaster (remote control) Units are commonly laying 6 to 9m3 of aggregate per day, equivalent to 14 to 21 tonnes of hotmix per day.

“This new unit has already proven its high output capability and its outstanding acceptance by our operators. The remote controlled operation has revolutionised our bitumen patching work whilst providing a safer, cleaner, more comfortable operator environment.”

Jetsealing

Jetsealing is performed using the Ausroad™ Aggregate Spreader. Spray sealing sections of road are achieved simply & efficiently.

The aggregate spreader enables emulsion spraying and aggregate sealing to be completed in one pass. The full width aggregate spreader is located immediately behind the rear truck wheels and at a constant height from the road, this means that it is always in position for immediate use.

The Ausroad™ aggregate spreader features a split auger (or 2 augers) each driven independently by separate hydraulic motors which ensures a constant even feed of aggregate when the box is offset from the truck.

Jetpaving

Jetpaving is performed using the Ausroad™ multipurpose full width paving & edging unit.

This system involves minor modification to the spreader box / spray bar to enable spray jets to be angled back at approximately 45°. The aggregate is coated in emulsion as it drops onto the road. The screeder automatically levels itself with existing road service and forms new material into a smooth paved surface. This system is very useful when repairing shoulders or depressions that are continuous in nature.
